Lindeka Stulo, a lesbian woman who has been assaulted four times as a result of her sexual orientation talks about her experiences at Ithemba Lam, a township gay rights Christian centre and safe house on January 19, 2012 in Gugulethu, an impoverished township about 15Km of Cape Town. After being assaulted on one occasion she was hospitalised for a month. Stulo fears ‘Corrective’ rape as it is called, which aims to turn lesbians heterosexual, and is a not uncommon danger for lesbians in the largely patriachial communities found in many South African townships.
